Goliath and the Dominoes

Dominoes NewWhen the Israelites were faced with a challenge from Goliath, one of the Philistines greatest and biggest warriors, no one answered the call…except for a young shepherd boy named David.  Out of all the trained and experienced Israelite warriors, none of them would fight the giant.  Well, would you have?  The guy was a giant and a fierce warrior.  But David took up the gauntlet.  Can’t you just see him?  A boy with a slingshot, going out to face Goliath, and then shocking everybody’s sandals off by defeating him.

Nobody’s a Nobody

In today’s society, there are many Goliath-sized problems and sometimes it may seem like it’ll never change and no matter what we do, it’ll never make a difference.  But those are just the kind of lies that Satan wants us to believe, just the kind of flapdoodle that your little shoulder-devil has been whispering in your ear for years.  The truth is, however, it only takes one person to change the world.  “Yeah right,” you say?  “Not likely.  Maybe if I was the president or the pope or Martin Luther King, but I’m a nobody.”  Well, the truth is that nobody is a nobody.  Everybody’s a somebody in God’s eyes; each and every one of us is one of his handcrafted pieces of art.

How to be a Domino

What do we consider to be the description of a nobody?  Someone who’s weak, unknown, uneducated, uninfluential?  Well, guess what?  Everyone starts out that way.  It’s the ones who push by Satan’s lies and determine to make a difference who become the world-changers.  Maybe you’ll never become the president of the United States or a famous activist, but you can make a difference.  Earlier I said it only takes one person to change the world.  Now I’ll tell you how.  If you only impact one other person, that person can go out and impact another person, and so on until there’s a giant domino train that goes flying down the tracks and knocks Goliath straight off his feet.  That’s how you can be a domino and a world-changer: push by Satan’s lies, determine to make a difference, and start knocking down dominoes by impacting other people in a positive way.

“But you be strong, and don’t let your hands be slack; for your work will be rewarded.”  (2 Chronicles 15:7)

The Armor of God

There’s one thing you need to remember, though.  Nothing is possible without God, “but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in Yahweh [the Lord] with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding.”

Before David went out to fight Goliath, Saul dressed him in his own armor.  However, David took it off and, when he defeated Goliath, he wasn’t wearing Saul’s armor, he was wearing the Armor of God.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10-11)

This is something to keep in mind, especially when we’re trying to change the world.

Lord, help us not believe Satan’s lies,

Let us go boldly forth,

To make a difference, to impact lives,

To be a positive light and change in the world.
